Loot is a digital envelope budgeting app for New Zealand bank accounts. We take your privacy seriously and are committed to protecting your personal information. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Information We Collect

Account information: your email address and name when you sign up.
Bank data: transaction details (descriptions, amounts, dates) imported via Akahu, a licensed and regulated New Zealand open banking provider.
Budgeting data: envelopes, rules, and assignments you create within the app.
Device information: basic technical data needed to deliver the service (browser type, screen size).

How We Use Your Data

To provide the budgeting service: importing transactions, calculating balances, and applying your rules.
To improve the app: understanding usage patterns to make Loot better.
To communicate with you: service updates, support responses, and important notices.

Third-Party Services

Akahu (akahu.nz): Provides secure, read-only access to your bank transactions. Akahu is a licensed provider regulated by New Zealand authorities.
Supabase: Hosts our database and authentication. Your data is stored securely with encryption at rest.
Azure: Hosts our application servers in the cloud.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and encrypted database storage. We never store your bank login credentials — all bank access is handled securely through Akahu.

Your Rights

Access: You can request a copy of your data at any time.
Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data from the Settings page.
Portability: You can request your data in a machine-readable format.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed within 30 days.
